The Black Box Live Traffic Identifier for Fiber helps technicians quickly locate, identify, and troubleshoot active fiber optic links without disrupting network traffic. By eliminating the need to disconnect or open fibers during testing, it reduces downtime, speeds maintenance, and helps keep critical services running.
Simply clamp the identifier onto the fiber to instantly detect live optical signals. Using non-destructive macro-bend detection technology, it safely identifies active fibers without damaging or overstressing the cable. When traffic is present, the unit provides both an audible alert and visual LED indication of traffic direction, enabling faster, more accurate identification during installations, upgrades, and repairs.
The identifier detects low-frequency tones at 270 Hz, 1 kHz, and 2 kHz, making it easy to trace fibers and verify network paths. It also displays Relative Core Power, giving technicians valuable insight into signal strength and helping pinpoint poor connectors, faulty splice points, and other sources of optical loss before they impact network performance.
Supporting wavelengths from 850 to 1700 nm, the Live Traffic Identifier works with both single-mode and multimode fiber, reducing the need for multiple test instruments. Included adapters enable testing of 900-µm buffered fiber, 250-µm coated fiber, ribbon fiber, and 3-mm jacketed fiber, providing the versatility needed for a wide range of network environments.Designed for everyday field use, the identifier combines a lightweight, ergonomic design with a rugged metal housing that stands up to demanding job-site conditions. Hands-free operation improves productivity and convenience, while compatibility with a light source adds flexibility for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting tasks. The result is faster fault isolation, reduced service interruptions, and more efficient fiber network management.
